Cordele is located in the southern part of Georgia, three hours from Atlanta, two and a half hours from Columbus, GA and an hour and a half south of Macon.
Cordele is the starting point for the SAM Shortline Excursion Train, which departs from the Cordele Depot. The train runs through nearby towns and attractions including the Georgia Veterans State Park, the Rural Telephone Museum in Leslie, Habitat for Humanity's Global Village at Americus and President Carter's Campaign Museum in Plains, GA.
The Georgia Veterans State Park, located just a short drive east of town, on the shores of Lake Blackshear, was established as a memorial to US. Veterans and features a military museum with items from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War. It is one of Georgia's most popular state parks and is also home to Lake Blackshear Resort and an 18-hole golf course and pro shop.
