The city of Hagerstown is located about an hour and a half northwest of Washington DC, in the Great Appalachian Valley. Nicknamed 'Hub City', it sits at the intersection of the I-81 and I-70.
During the Civil War Hagerstown became a border town with the valley in which it is situated serving as route for troop movements between Virginia and Pennsylvania. The Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest single-day battle the history of the Civil War, took place just south of town.
