Junction City, with a population of about 20,000, is located in northeastern Kansas, about an hour west of Topeka, just north of the I-70. Junction City is the major service town for Fort Riley, which serves as the headquarters of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division.
Points of interest in the city include the Civil War Memorial Arch and the river walk trail along the banks of Republican River.
Attractions in the vicinity of the city include the U. S. Cavalry Museum in Ft. Fort Riley, the Kansas Auto Racing Museum in Chapman just east of Junction City and Milford Lake and state park northwest of town. With almost 16,000 surface acres and about 160 miles of shoreline Milford Lake is the largest lake in Kansas, offering modern campgrounds, swimming beaches, boat ramps, a full-service marina and yacht club.
Most hotels and motels in Junction City are located along the I-70 and are within 5 miles of both downtown, Fort Riley's Irwin Army Hospital and Marshall Airfield.
