The city of McAlester is located in southeastern Oklahoma, at the crossroads of the Indian Nation Turnpike, highway 69, highway 31 and highway 270.
The city is home to McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP). Points of interest in McAlester include the J.G. Puterbaugh House and Garrard Ardenium, J.J. McAlester Mansion, Krebs Heritage Museum, Oklahoma Prisons' Historical Museum, Tannehill Museum, Tobucksy Indian Court House Museum and the Old Town Historic District.
Hotels and motels in McAlester are located mainly along highway 69 and provide easy access to MCAAP and local points of interest.
