Oklahoma City, the capital of the state of Oklahoma, has had a history that is full of 'booms and busts'.
Founded in the 'land rush' of 1889, Oklahoma City has enjoyed prosperity when it turned out the beneath the prairie land lays one of the largest oil fields in the united states. In the 80s though, prosperity has turned into decline with the drop of oil prices and the introduction of a notoriously high state and city taxes.
In April 19, 1995 Oklahoma City was hit again with the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on, which killed 168 people. The Oklahoma City bombing memorial that stands today where the building used to stand is, sadly enough, one of the major tourist attractions in the city.
While not at its peak, Oklahoma City is still a large and vibrant city with many attractions. Among the most popular are Bricktown, Frontier City Theme, Remington Park Race Track, OKC Zoo, Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Softball Hall of Fame.
Most hotels in Oklahoma City are located near the Oklahoma City Airport along the I-40 where the State Fairgrounds are also located.
