Nicknamed 'the Golden Triangle', downtown Pittsburgh sits at the confluence of three rivers: the Monongahela, the Allegheny and the Ohio. The fairly compact area is easy to navigate withy most major attractions located within walking distance of one another.
On the eastern side of downtown, at the 'tip of the triangle', is Point State Park with its large fountain and the city's oldest structure. On the western side of downtown, just across the I-579 is Mellon Arena, which hosts large exhibitions, concerts and sporting events.
On the northern side of downtown is PPG Place a large retail and office complex, which houses numerous restaurants and a large, wintertime, ice skating rink. Just north of it, across the Allegheny are Heinz Field, PNC Park and the Andy Warhol Museum.
Hotels in downtown Pittsburgh are all located within walking distance, or a short taxi ride from all major attractions. They are also just a short distance from the Oakland neighborhood and the university area in the east.
