Tijuana, just across the US border from San Diego is, surprisingly enough, the world's most visited cities, with over 35 million people crossing the border each year.
Made famous in countless Hollywood films and TV series as the 'getaway for the young and restless', Tijuana is as 'touristy' as a town can be. It is a chaotic mix of souvenir shops, cheap restaurants and bars that serve alcohol to people under the California drinking age.
The adult oriented entertainment industry that made Tijuana notoriously famous has been pushed in recent years away from the town core. Gambling however is still common with greyhound racing and bullfights leading the way.
While most visitors to Tijuana do not spend the night south of the border, the town has a selection of reasonably priced hotels that conform to western standards.
