Biloxi is the main city and major tourist destination on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. After years of prosperous growth, Hurricane Katrina hit it hard in 2005, devastating local homes and businesses. A concentrated rebuilding effort taken since is transforming Biloxi into a newer, improved version of its old self.
The city's main tourist attraction are the casinos which include the Boomtown Casino, the Beau Rivage by MGM, Grand Casino Biloxi, IP Casino, Isle of Capri Casino Resort, Treasure Bay Casino and the Palace Casino.
Historic attractions in Biloxi include the 51-acre Beauvoir estate, fronting the Gulf of Mexico with the restored Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library, the historic Biloxi Lighthouse erected in the middle of the 19th century and the Biloxi Mardi Gras Museum, which traces 300 years of Mardi Gras history on the Gulf Coast.
Keesler Air Force Base, located in town, is home to the electronics and communications training center of the Air Force with thousands of students annually. It is also home to Keesler's Medical Center the second largest medical facility in the Air Force.
